Breastfeeding and holiday parties
Thursday, December 18th, 2008As I was driving to the office this morning I heard a commercial talking about how to have less stress this holiday season. Of course they didn’t give me any insight into how to lower my stress but it did make me think about all the moms out there and the enormous about of stress we put on ourselves during the holidays. I think it all starts with Thanksgiving and then comes the creating the perfect holiday card, decorating the house, shopping for the perfect presents, wrapping those presents, shipping the presents, etc. Needless to say, lots on our holiday plates as Moms.
If one thing stressing you out is breastfeeding and the number of holiday parties you have coming up this weekend and next week then check out the tips below from lactation consultant and La Dolce Mama online boutique owner, Michelle Barto.
1. Plan — Whether you decide to bring baby or leave her at home, make sure you set a timeline as to how long you will be gone. Getting out will do you good and knowing when you will be back will help you remain calm.
2. Pump — Unless your baby is less than 3 weeks old, having a supply of pumped milk is crucial. Even if you bring your baby to the party, it is nice to know you can feed her when she is hungry, until you can find a comfortable place to nurse or pump.
3. Alcohol — If you wish to have a drink then check out Milkscreen. It takes the guesswork out of having a glass of holiday cheer.
4. Relax — Parties are supposed to be fun. Kids are the best excuse for sitting out parties you don’t want to attend, but make sure you go to a few. Just focus on the ones you really want to go to.
Happy Holidays to all from UpSpring Baby!!
